The Board of the Auckland Hebrew Congregation has brought in two Shlichim from Israel to work in our community. 2008's schlichim are Aviv Alsech and Lior Sulami
They will be involved with Education programmes and in addition, working with Bnei Akiva. We are presently finding them accommodation, which will also be used by Bnei Akiva until the renovations are completed.
Aviv and Lior run these services each week at 10:30am.
These will take place each Sunday from 9.30 – 10.30am. The children, in the 10-12 year age group both boys and girls, who are not proficient in Hebrew reading will hopefully attend to ensure they are prepared for when their Bar/Bat mitzvah programme begins.
The timetable for these classes is as follows:
Sunday
9am: Synagogue Service
9:30-10:30am: Discussion on Jewish issues
10:30-12noon: Individual Parashat practice & reading skills / religious practices
In addition Aviv and Lior are able to work individually with each boy one night a week on their Parashat either at the boy’s home or the boys would come to where Elazar and Evyatar are staying. Parents are asked to telephone the Synagogue office to arrange this.
Once a month, on the first Shabbat of each month, a lunch will be held for students aged 13-19 after Synagogue on the Saturday.
Please contact us to find out when the next lunch will be held and to confirm your attendance.
The Rabbi, Shai and the Shlichim will run these classes on a Thursday afternoon from 4.30 – 6.30pm.
