  How big is the Auckland Jewish Community?

There are estimated to be around 4,000 Jews in the Auckland area. The Auckland Hebrew Congregation, which is the Orthodox Synagogue comprises over 600 member families.

  When are Shul Services?

There are services on Friday evenings, Shabbat mornings, Sunday, Monday, Thursday mornings, Rosh Chodesh, and Festivals. click here for this weeks service times.

  Is there a Mikveh?

The Auckland Hebrew Congregation operates a fully kosher Mikveh for members and visitors.

  Is there an Eruv?

At the moment there is no Eruv in Auckland.

  How accessible is kosher food in Auckland?

The synagogue shop stocks a wide variety of kosher produce, meat and dairy, together with snack meals and imports from Israel, South Africa, the USA and Australia. It is also the principal outlet for kosher challahs, cheese and wine though these are also available elsewhere.   Are there any Kosher restaurants in Auckland?

No. (Not yet!)

  I'm coming to New Zealand on a Tour / Holiday. Will I starve?

No! Food is available (see above) and easily prepared Shabbat meals are available from the shop. The Kosher Directory lists a large range of kosher foods and is available online.

Where possible and with notice, we try to provide hospitality for Shabbat meals for visitors.

Tours coming through should contact the Office directly to try to arrange Kosher supervised catering throughout NZ.

  When do I observe Yahrzeit?

Use our Yaharzeit Calculator to work this out. To get the date, select the month from the drop down box, type in the day followed by the year (four digits). The push the grey button and the dates will appear at the top of your screen under the Yartzheit logo.
