Are You Our Next Rabbi?

The Auckland Hebrew Congregation in Auckland New Zealand has begun searching for a new Rabbi.

We are looking for someone to provide community and Halachic guidance and be responsible for the day-to-day activities of our busy community. Our lifecycle events, Shabbat and Yom Tov services, kashrut responsibilities, education activities and the pastoral care of our diverse community are a key part of the role.

We would like to be able to appoint someone with a tertiary secular qualification as well as smicha. Our Rabbi needs to be fluent in English and must be willing to uphold and support our Modern Orthodox standards. We expect our Rabbi to have strong people skills, be adaptable and be able to relate empathetically to a broad range of ages and levels of religious observance. He will be prepared to lead a small team - support is available but this is a sole charge position. As such, we expect our Rabbi and his family to immerse themselves in Community Life.

Our shul, which is located in the heart of Auckland, is housed in a recently refurbished community centre which is home to a Jewish primary school and Kosher deli. We also hold services at a suburban location. We are proud of the wide range of communal and Zionist organisations that are active in our city.

Auckland is a beautiful city of over one million inhabitants in the North Island of New Zealand. It is situated between two oceans, enjoys an equable climate and political and social stability. Auckland regularly appears high on the lists of the best cities to live in - ranking 4th in the 2010 Mercer Worldwide Quality of Living survey.

Your positive attitude to the community and life in New Zealand will be key to your success. Like all Rabbinical positions, this one will have many rewards and challenges but will also offer numerous opportunities for someone with the right level of energy, enthusiasm and confidence to see the results of their efforts.
